Bridgerton Review: Lord Debling and Penelope

Penelope’s courtship with Lord Debling was a puzzling one. While he craved a practical, unemotional marriage, his possessiveness over Penelope, even with his frequent absences, was a glaring contradiction. It felt hypocritical that Lord Debling desired a wife devoid of romantic entanglements yet couldn’t stomach the possibility of her affections lying elsewhere, particularly with Colin. This possessiveness without the emotional investment left me wondering – what exactly did Lord Debling expect from Penelope, and how could he justify his exclusive claim on her heart when their future together seemed so devoid of emotional connection? For Penelope, Lord Debling offered security but lacked the spark of true love. In her heart, perhaps she knew a different path, with all its uncertainties, held the promise of something far more fulfilling.
